Meet Hannah RMT, MSc. CSCS.

For as long as I can remember, I have been a mover.

Even as a child, my mother recalls only having to leave me alone for 5 seconds and I would be racing through the house. Until age 10, cartwheeling was my mode of transport.

My love of movement manifested in a love of dancing which I took up seriously as a child. I loved the sensation of feeling my body propel through space and seeing what shapes my body could create. I continued dancing into my teenage years and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from York University in Toronto Canada. My first Dance Kinesiology course changed the course of my life.

I realized I wanted more than to just dance. It wasn't enough to just do the movements, I wanted to know how my body was moving, and help others train most effectively.

As I have grown, so has my expertise. I received a Masters degree in Dance Science From Trinity Laban which looked at how the principles of movement are best applied to create healthy dancers. Here I learned to critically analyze research in the dance and fitness field, conduct my own evidence based research and create movement programs that target the specific needs of the individual. During my time in the UK, I also worked as an Associate Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University in the Dance Performance and Dance and Fitness programs leading undergraduate level courses in Strength and Conditioning for Dancers. I also taught in the Dance Performance program at Middlesex University and guest lectured at Trinity Laban in the Graduate department, University of Ipswich and Roehampton University.

I went on to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  I am also a fully Certified Pilates Instructor through Body Harmonics and teach both private and group Pilates sessions.

I have worked with elite athletes at Kings College London creating training programs to help them enhance their performance as well as pre-professional dancers embarking on their careers.  I have experience working with elderly populations, people with Parkinson’s and children, and believe the general principles of healthy movement can be applied to anyone!

In 2017, I graduated from Sutherland-Chan school of Massage Therapy to become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Adding to my arsenal, I am now able to connect the dots and integrate soft tissue work with movement re-education giving my clients the full spectrum of support. As a massage therapist, I have experience working in both clinical and hospital settings including:
  • High risk obstetrical unit at Sunnybrook Hospital,
  • Bellewoods supportive living facility for people living with disability
  • Thoracic surgery unit at Toronto General Hospital
  • Pegasus Toronto, community project for adults with special needs
  • Sutherland Chan student clinic

I also work as a  Dance Science Consultant and am  a Registered Provider for Safe in Dance International. I teach courses in Safe Dance Practice to prepare dancers and dance teachers for the successful completion of a Healthy Dance Practice Certificate.

In recent years my interests have shifted and I've developed a deep and humbling love for the sports of running and triathlon. I have competed in numerous sprint and olympic distance triathlons as well as various road and trail races. I recently completed my first 70.3 half ironman, and full marathon. In spring 2019 I ran a 50km trail ultra marathon. I love to connect with other runners and help them to become the best they can be.

I believe wholeheartedly in the importance of evidence-based research to create safe and effective training programmes. My background in dance has given me a holistic understanding of movement and the body's unique capacity to move.  I believe in the importance of dynamically moving to support a healthy lifestyle and I am a passionate educator! I would like to help those who want a way into health through movement.
